Organisation conducts Study classes at 10 different locations in Navapur block of Nandurbar district. Each location has average 20 numbers of students from different educational standards attending regular study classes for 2 hours. This activity helps us to identify good students and motivate them for higher studies. Our teachers are helping students to develop interests in the regular studies and keep them updated with general knowledge and reduce school drop outs up to certain extend.

 

Organisation is encouraging tribal children and youths to read daily news papers and keeps them updated with current affairs in the country and world through reading places established in villages. Organisation is supporting youth groups to build low cost reading places and provides daily news papers in Marathi language. “Employment News” is leading weekly publication is also provided to all centres so that youth are updated with employment opportunities for them.  Some tribal doctors have shown willingness to support this activity by sponsoring theses reading centres.

 

Tribal youths are one off the important target beneficiaries of this organisation. Team members of the organisation are identifying youth groups in the villages and Organising periodic meetings for them. Eminent speakers from various fields are being called to deliver lecture series on different topics to guide youth from surrounding villages. Creating awareness about healthy life style and importance of education among youth is our motto behind this activity.

 

Women are neglected in most of the communities in India. Monthly meetings are conducted at village level especially for women’s and adolescent girls. These meetings are attended by the illiterate women from the surrounding villages. Health care workers from various government and non government organisations are helping us to provide health education to women and adolescents from tribal community.

 

Lack of leadership is one of the important factors that affect tribal community from realizing their social development. AaSHRAY-DURG is committed to develop tribal community by training tribal individuals to lead and represent their community, effectively.


So far seven batches have successfully completed leadership development program organised by our organisation in collaboration with various organisation.


Participants are trained in the various rural and social development issues and activities which helps them to bring positive changes in the community. Well experienced and trained mentors are training participants in leadership techniques.


We have successfully trained about 200 individuals from the tribal communities which are working with different organisations in the surrounding villages for social development.

 

Encouraging self employment and financial sustainability for target beneficiaries is core function of this organisation. We are organising training sessions for skill enhancements for the unemployed youths. This activity helps them to start their own business, trades and bring financial security to them and their families.

Organisation has successfully trained about 150 individuals from the tribal community.

Organisation has also provided small financial grants to few youths to buy tools and equipments for earning their livelihood.

 

Knowledge of computer is the need of the hour. Most of the children in the villages do not get opportunity to learn computer during their school days. AaSHRAY-DURG has taken an initiative in computer education by starting free computer classes for the tribal children in the service villages. Our friends, well-wishers have donated used computers for this activity.

 

Organisation is actively involved in educational development activities by supporting eligible student’s secured admissions in various institutions. Till today our organisation has supported more than 70 students for different studies. Currently organisation is supporting 3 girls for nursing studies & 2 girls for graduation and 10 students for post matric schooling. The support is done through offering necessary guidance and financial grants to the students.

 

Group of working professionals in Mumbai have started “Joshi Kaka Scholarship” in fond remembrance of their friend Shri Arun Joshi who passed away in 2013. AaSHRAY-DURG is the nodal agency to disburse this scholarship by identifying eligible students.


Following are the beneficiaries of this scholarship for the financial year 2013-14:

  2. Ms. Nidhi Pravin Adhav. (11th Standard) Chembur, Mumbai.

  3. Mr. Karan Keshav Devaria. (11th Standard) Chembur, Mumbai.

  4. Ms. Upasana Sunil Gavit. (B.Sc. Nursing) Navapur, Nandurbar.

  5. Mr. Dilip J. Gavit (M.A. Sociology, Mumbai University) Navapur, Nandurbar.

 

 

AaSHRAY-DURG was running shelter home for senior citizen at Nashik (Maharashtra State) from 2008-2010, however, could not sustain the same due to lack of resources. Nonetheless, we continue to support some needy senior citizens and widows by providing monitory support and help to buy regular medicines prescribed by registered medical practitioners in the project area of the organisation at Nandurbar.

 

To develop and encourage community participation in rural development, organisation arrange frequent meetings for the families and youth of the villages. This helps us for idea exchange among participants. During every get together all participants devote time for cleaning water source, school & hostel premises, plantation in the villages.

 

We are committed to support medically ill individuals for medical treatment up to certain limit. Members and well wishers of organisation are conducting medical camps at various hamlets and villages. We as a team actively participate in the health care activities organised by other governmental and non governmental organisations. Our doctors are voluntarily involved in camps organised by the similar organisation across the country.

 

Founder members are collecting used books and cloths from friends and are being distributed to the needy individuals in the rural area.

 

Aashray-Durg is always available to cater needs of the victims of the natural calamities.

There was fire outbreak in one house at “Pimpri Pada” Village, Near Navapur (Maharashtra) on 24th May’ 2013. Entire house was destroyed in fire outbreak. Organisation has supported this family by giving them cloths, food grains and utensils. We have also supported this family for rebuilding their house.

Part of community health our health care projects; AaSHRAY-DURG has launched Mobile Medical Unit in Nandurbar district. One Mobile Medical Unit will cater health needs of tribal community around 30 villages in Navapur block of Nandurbar district.
